At Hawksbill Cay, in the Exumas, you can find the ruins left behind by a the Russell family. They were loyalists who settled the island in 1785, and it’s very interesting to walk the same paths that they did well over 200 years ago.
It’s hard to imagine how difficult it must have been to eke out an existence on a rock surrounded by Atlantic Ocean. I mean – we were only in the bush for an hour or less and we couldn’t even handle the local mosquitoes.
Thankfully were were able to retreat to our boats afterward and go for a refreshing swim.
