Revealing The Inside Of The Hull - Ep. 398 RAN Sailing
June 14, 2024 by RAN Sailing | Language: EN Play Time: 00:18:48 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

The past couple of weeks have been extremely eventful on the farm as we have turned the hall around, it went great, and after lowering the hall to the floor and leveling it we started organizing in the barn and stable while I continue to organize Yan began to remove more support stands and the strong back. It took so much time and material to build all the support stands and everything else inside the hall and now it’s all being taken out; that’s boat building. It was quite some time since I did this coiling, these lines are old.
This one is so twisted, we used it when we turned the hull around. We’re still organizing in here hopefully we can have the shelves ready in a few days so we can start filling that space up. Walking on these temporary frames they make noise and yeah with the plywood they get like echoes inside.
It’s looking so much bigger inside now when you’re getting all the heavy stuff out. Just more and more, we can visualize what it’s going to look like; the interior, the different cabins. It will be interesting to walk around in here with the 3D drawing to just see the actual size of everything – the different cabins.
The Journey Continues
So, as you can see I put up these temporary deck frames now if you can call them that and removed the temporary frames here in the aft. These are just there to keep the correct measurement across here so we will have the correct curve on the hull so it doesn’t fall out but it seems like even without this it more or less stays the same because of the fiberglass on the outside is quite stiff in that direction but we’ll have them here anyway, just to be sure. So I put them in before I remove uh the next frame, I put up another beam across and then removed this one and we’ll move our way forward in the hull.
Newfound Space
So, this is how far we got yesterday with the removal of the temporary frames and I took one out this morning as well. And I have to say it feels almost surreal walking around in here; it’s so much bigger now once the frames are out. For the first time you can really see the hull coming alive in a way from those 3D drawings, it’s so much easier to visualize where the different compartments are going to be, it’s like an empty canvas that we’re going to fill with our future home. I’m really stoked to get the rest of these out so we can see the full volume of the hull.
An Empty Hull
Well, now this is the top of the keel pocket where I have this or mount these Spruce planks on the bottom and so I’ll try to remove those now hopefully everything will come off easily; we’ll see. Well I had almost forgot that in between the spruce planks and the actual laminate we have this uh board really thin and that sits on top of the tape at least the tape hasn’t got stuck on the laminate so that’s good.
The Process
So this tape we had in place on the edges of the plywood to keep it from getting stuck with epoxy and I have to say it has worked really well uh, we haven’t had one frame that’s stuck to the cedar so it has worked really good. And I’m making a mark where the waterline is, and this we’ve placed out on each frame so now that when we’re removing them we make a mark each position where a frame was where the waterline is and as well as reference point which is now up here, we keep all those so we keep those markings throughout the build. It’s such an echo in here now I don’t know how the sound is going to be on the camera because I don’t have a mic on there.
The Final Frames
We’re going to cut it in two pieces because it’s so heavy. This is what it looks like now and I think it’s three more to go, three more frames; yes! That was a while ago when we see the beautiful work and some bird poop.
The Finish Line
Now that the hull is empty, Yan went on to tackle the timber leftovers. It’s just an amazing sight now. And then it will be time to start working on some of the interior like installing shelves and uh putting in electrical work and things like that so that everything gets more and more beautiful here inside of our boat.
A Celebration
So, we have an empty hull and we’re celebrating with a picnic; the first picnic in here and uh definitely not the last one. But I think in the future, we’re not going to sit here in between Vera’s cabin and the guest cabin. It feels really good to have reached this far.
What’s Next?
Before you can continue working in here, we’re going to finish the shelves and clean up around the boat uh but this is it for this week yes and uh just wanted to remind you of our open house that we’re going to have again this summer and it’s for all of our patrons uh last year was so much fun. I think we were around 60 people and we had patrons coming from the US, Australia, and we’ll do it Portugal.
A Community Celebration
Last year was so much fun! It was our first open house after launching the channel. So we had people coming from all over the world; US, Australia, and even Portugal to see us and the boat. It felt really special, actually, that we could finally share our hard work with people in person.
An Invitation
So if you enjoy our videos and you feel that you want to support them and also get invited to the open house, click into our Patreon page. It’s been a really nice thing to be able to invite our patrons every year to this open house because we always build it around launching the new boat that year.

We're removing all the support stands and temporary frames piece by piece from the hull. And finally we have an empty hull and we can see how big it is!
