Laminating Chainplate Reinforcements - Ep. 401

Laminating Chainplate Reinforcements – Ep. 401

In the latest episode, Yan continues working on strengthening his boat by laminating chainplate reinforcements. Process Overview: Starting off the episode, Yan begins the process of laminating the 10 pieces required for the chainplate reinforcements. These are 4,000 mm long and 250 mm wide, made from heavy unidirectional cloth weighing 1,200 g each. His goal is to complete at least two pieces on this day. The Lamination: Using a new suit and a different surface for saturation, Yan begins the laminating process. He applies four layers on the midsection of one piece and ends with peel ply to help even out the material. Then he moves onto three layers each side before finishing off with another layer of peel ply. Reflections and Adjustments: Completing this piece, Yan reflects on the challenges faced like sagging from heavy cloth, making him redo portions of it. Despite the issues encountered, he acknowledges that using staples for holding cloth in place was helpful. Also, calculating the required resin based on the surface area ensures controlled saturation. Next Steps: The following day, Yan returns to finish off the lamination process. He learns from his past mistakes and applies those lessons to improve speed and efficiency. Wrap-Up: The episode concludes with a brief mention of the upcoming open house for patrons, encouraging viewers to check out their sustainable merchandise at ronningstore.com. Throughout this video, Yan showcases not only his skills in lamination but also highlights how he overcomes challenges through trial and error. He keeps viewers informed about his thought process, making the experience relatable and educational.

We spend some time on our little sailboat Articos and prepare her for our coming sail. Then we laminate the chain plates reinforcements.

We are a Swedish family who have sailed the world since 2016 while sharing the adventures here on YouTube. While we are still sailing, our main focus now a days is building RAN III, a 50 ft sailboat that we are building from scratch. We post a new episode every Friday so make sure to subscribe and hit the bell to be the first to know when there is a new episode!
