Building stairs and preparations - Ep. 402 RAN Sailing

<-- wp:paragraph --> In the latest RAN Sailing episode, they continued their dedication towards getting their little sailboat ready for an upcoming summer sale. Last time, they spent significant time preparing and unlaminating chain plate reinforcements.

Building a Portal

The team started the episode by cutting a rebar mesh in half and mounted it between two rebars using a tying wire. They decided on a height and utilized an old hay rake to bend the rebars.

Pouring Concrete Base

Ran then poured concrete as a base for the portal and allowed it to set overnight. The resulting portal became an efficient passageway into their “kitchen garden”, hopefully covered in blossoms by next summer.

Prepping for Lamination

The sailboat journey continued with additional work on the boat’s interior. Specifically, Ran sanded areas where he had used filler and epoxy to cover holes, and he drew guidelines before measuring all the necessary areas for cutting fiberglass.

Creating Platform & Steps

An important task was building a platform and steps to make it easier entering and exiting the hull. This became essential for moving heavy, cumbersome rolls of saturated fiberglass within the sailboat.

Lamination Process

The team proceeded to stack three layers on either side and began laminating the interior using a “wet-in-wet” method, following accurate guidelines they had previously drawn. The process ensured consistency in the thickness of laminate throughout.

Sanding & Drawing Lines

As the lamination was progressing, Ran made sure to continually sand the areas with epoxy patches. Additionally, paper strips were used for drawing guidelines, ensuring that each layer of fiberglass fell in the correct place on the hull’s interior.

Successful Completion

The project culminated with a successfully completed laminated area. The new stairs proved to be user-friendly and safe, receiving five-star approval. To wrap up the episode, Ran expressed gratitude to the audience for watching and encouraged viewers to subscribe to their channel if they hadn’t already done so. The team extended a “big hug” to everyone contributing to the production of their episodes.

Conclusion

In conclusion, RAN Sailing has continued to showcase their skill in preparing sailboats for sale by building a portal and enhancing the boat’s internal structure with new stairs, platforms, and strengthened laminations. This meticulous attention to detail reflects their dedication to providing thorough explanations and demonstrating practical skills to their audience.
