84 - New Years in Sydney Harbour Is Absolutely EPIC!

For the last year, we’d had one date circled on the calendar: New Year’s Eve in Sydney Harbour. And we finally made it…
David’s family flew halfway around the world to join us for the holidays and we spent several weeks together exploring Australia. We got out to visit the (very foggy!) Blue Mountains, flew up to Brisbane to get up close and personal with some kangaroos and koalas, and finished the trip with a short sail up to Pittwater.
But the highlight was definitely New Year’s Eve. We anchored Starry Horizons in Farm Cove on the 30th, just a stones throw from the Opera House. The next day, chaos descended. It felt like every boat in Australia was trying to join us in the little cove. Boats were dragging anchor, running into each other and anchoring waaayyyy too close. Honestly, it was quite stressful.
Somehow, we managed to make it through the day without incident. And the fireworks made it all worth it. Happy 2018 indeed!

Welcome to Out Chasing Stars! We're Admiral Amy and Captain David and we're currently exploring the world on s/v Starry Horizons, our Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 catamaran. We started out (nervously!) watching our boat get launched in La Rochelle, France in October of 2014. Since then we've completed an entire world circumnavigation, sailing over 37,000nm, and documented it all here on YouTube. We started making these videos to show our family and friends what life was like on a sailboat, and we're still amazed that other people have also started following along.
