65 - Sailing to Ha'apai: A Humpback Heat Run
The time had come to explore a new part of Tonga: the Ha’apai Group. It’s about a 60 mile sail to get there and along the way we got to encounter those magnificiant reason we came back to Tonga: humpback whales!
We got to experience several ‘heat runs’ which is where male humpbacks compete over a female in order to mate. It was absolutely amazing to get our drone up in the air and capture all the splashing, tail slapping and breaching!
Of course, once we got down to Foa Island, we managed to have a pretty good time there as well. We did some exploration, some snorkeling and attended the Agricultural and Fisheries show where we got to see the King!

Welcome to Out Chasing Stars! We're Admiral Amy and Captain David and we're currently exploring the world on s/v Starry Horizons, our Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 catamaran. We started out (nervously!) watching our boat get launched in La Rochelle, France in October of 2014. Since then we've completed an entire world circumnavigation, sailing over 37,000nm, and documented it all here on YouTube. We started making these videos to show our family and friends what life was like on a sailboat, and we're still amazed that other people have also started following along.
