57 - Mainsail Rips Are No Fun
It’s always the last day of a passage when things go wrong! We set sail from New Zealand to head back up to Tonga for another South Pacific cruising season. The passage was a bit of a tricky one with strong winds, then light winds and then shifting strong winds. We managed to take it all in stride until the last night.
While reefing, a screw that backed itself out of mast track got caught on a track car. And unfortunately, the electric winch will win that battle every time! After a quick fix at sea, we arrived into Neiafu, Tonga, tired but glad to be back.

Welcome to Out Chasing Stars! We're Admiral Amy and Captain David and we're currently exploring the world on s/v Starry Horizons, our Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 catamaran. We started out (nervously!) watching our boat get launched in La Rochelle, France in October of 2014. Since then we've completed an entire world circumnavigation, sailing over 37,000nm, and documented it all here on YouTube. We started making these videos to show our family and friends what life was like on a sailboat, and we're still amazed that other people have also started following along.
