20 | Crossing the Western Pacific on a Wooden Boat
August 09, 2024 by Madison Boatworks | Language: EN Play Time: 00:19:35 | SAILING YOUTUBERS

We set out on an ocean passage across the western pacific from Fiji to New Caledonia, about 700 nautical miles. This passage had some great sailing, and some scary moments as a severe squall passed over us in the night and kept the boat pinned down on her side until we could reduce sail. Overall this was one of our best passages yet, seven days spent exploring the beauty of the open ocean.
Julia is a traditional wooden boat, built in 1960 in Desolation Sound in British Columbia to William Atkin’s Ingrid design. She is a Pacific ocean veteran, with many blue water miles under her keel.
