Transiting the Crinan Canal | Tight Depths, Tangled Keel & a Perfect Sailing Finish

In this action-packed episode, we enter the Crinan Canal, hoping for a smooth transition from Scotland’s west coast to its inland beauty — but things don’t exactly go to plan.

With a strict 2m draft limit, we nearly touch bottom, and it only gets more intense from there. The canal exit turns into chaos with boats crashing, confused lock operations, and to top it off, we snag a 20-meter-long fishing pot line around our keel. Miraculously, we escape damage and continue on, only to witness the boat ahead of us hit rocks hard near our mooring for the night.

Despite the drama, we’re treated to stunning sailing conditions and refuel with the best sandwiches in Scotland from our favourite spot on Arran — The Sandwich Station.

⛵ Highlights:

Navigating the Crinan Canal with draft restrictions

Boats colliding & disorganisation in the locks

Fishing pot line wrapped around our keel

Rock collision near our overnight stop

Gorgeous sailing & epic sandwiches from Arran
