This here is the dream but this is the reality; I have to build this before I can get to that point. Well, here we are – here’s our FR (floating residence). We’re hoping it’ll lift and uh, we can drop it down into a site that we’ve cleared.
The preparation and logistics are many when you’re building a 40ft catamaran. You should make sure you’ve got a lot of space. This is a 40t long, 25 ft wide, 5 ton deck mold that’s being lifted off here – it looked like the Starship Enterprise as it took off and flew across the sky onto its site adjacent to the hole.
Site Preparation
We cleared the site, preparing it for our massive mold. The location and space needed are crucial during the construction process of a boat of this size.

In future episodes, we’ll delve into the preparation of the tent that ultimately became the mold’s home as I built and constructed the hull out of fiberglass and foam core. We also spent a lot of time preparing this hole ready for the actual lamination.
