Sundays are for work at Life on the Hulls. We’re busy with a massive effort to finish off our galley, and we’ve got big plans in store! Watch along as Craig works his magic to create an impressive marine kitchen that’s functional, stylish, and ready for some cooking action.
Craig’s vision is to build a space that feels modern, classy and functional – after all, a good kitchen on the boat makes cooking easier. By building his own galley using foam shelves, glassed-in carcasses, and a few pieces of Corianu2014he managed to save weight throughout the design process. But with great plans come great challenges.
Craig ordered the wrong microwave surround for his new marine kitchen. He thought he had found the perfect match online, but upon installing it, realized that this particular piece did not fit right. Despite his thorough double-checking, he was stuck with an order mismatch.
Unwilling to accept the wrong purchase, Craig quickly took action. He reached out to the retailer, planning to appeal their good sense to take back the incorrect item in exchange for the one that actually fits. As Craig mentioned, a little error can turn the tide of the entire galley building project.
The construction of this marine kitchen has taken Craig about a week solid, with days spent fitting in appliances, working on the Corian top, and more. Despite some setbacks such as ordering the wrong microwave surround, Craig was determined to see his vision come to life.
The result? An elegant and stylish catamaran galley that not only saves on weight but also boasts a high-class look. With appliances in place, like the powerful induction cooker, Craig’s creation promises to be a space perfect for whipping up culinary delights even while at sea.
The small things, like ensuring the kitchen’s window is safe from damage and planning out the perfect placement of appliances and controls, are just as important in this final reveal. Craig reflects on his hard work to make a dream come true for any catamaran owner looking to elevate their galley game.
Craig’s meticulous process pays off with a kitchen that is both functional and attractive, ready for the ultimate culinary adventures on his catamaran. But he admits there is still room to learn more about cooking and sharing meals aboard – maybe even letting Janet take the reins as chef.
The final episode reveals a functional and elegant galley design, despite initial hiccups. Craig managed to turn his mistakes into learning experiences and continued working hard to make the perfect space for creating culinary masterpieces at sea.
From maximising storage space and making compromises this Catamaran Galley has finally taken shape. The appliance are going in, the weight saving foam core cabinetry has made the way for me to install a Corian solid Surface Kitchen Benchtop which will add that quality finish to the project. It wont be long before I am cooking up a storm on the water.
