We find an ice cold fresh water river in Akyaka - Gokova! (Sailing Dakini - Leave to Roam Ep. 97)

This episode begins with us anchored off Akyaka, the tourist town at the head of the Gulf of Gokova. In addition to being the home of a lot of big tourist boats, it has a great little market and a popular beach. In addition to being the capital of Turkey's wind sports scene it also has an amazing fresh water river flowing through it, crystal clear and icy cold. Great for a swim.

We leave that afternoon, tacking up the Gulf of Gokova before anchoring at Cleopatra's Beach again, and then sailing across to Akbuk. This large bay provides great shelter, and we go for an explore ashore, spot load of turtles and yes, try our own wing foiling again.

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.

UPDATE!!! After a few years of saving (thanks Covid) they finally did it. They now own DAKINI, a gorgeous Lagoon 421, and are (re) learning to sail while exploring the Mediterranean.
