The mast hinge available from Hobie is great for some extra security when putting your mast up or down. This part is made for 16s later than 2001 but there are instructions for modifying your mast base of earlier boats.
As well as facilitating the single handed raise and drop, this will also make putting the mast up easier wit 2 people.
