Getting a beach catamaran out of a narrow channel without an engine can look impossible... but with the right technique it's surprisingly manageable.
In this video I take a Hobie 16 through a tight buoyed channel using a series of controlled three-point turn style tacks. Along the way I'll explain the thinking behind each manoeuvre, how to keep the boat under control in confined water, and the small adjustments that make the difference when there's very little room to work with.
Whether you sail a Hobie 16, Dart, Topcat, Nacra, Prindle, or almost any other beach catamaran, these close-quarters sailing techniques can help you leave tight beaches, narrow channels and restricted launching areas with more confidence.
If you've ever wondered:
How do I sail through a narrow channel?
How do I get out without an engine?
What if there's no room to tack normally?
...this video is for you.
