Can a 25-year-old Tornado Catamaran still perform in strong winds?
It's time for the first proper high wind test of Bad Boy 94. The goal isn't to set speed records—it's to push this classic Olympic Tornado catamaran hard enough to reveal every weakness before racing. Joined by Johnny on his first Tornado sail, we head out into 20-25 knot conditions to see what works, what doesn't, and what needs fixing.
As expected, the shakedown uncovers plenty of small issues, from slippery new ropes and spinnaker handling to sail trim and rig tuning. Despite the gremlins, the Tornado reminds us why it's still regarded as one of the greatest performance catamarans ever built, reaching 23.19 knots during testing.
If you're interested in Tornado catamarans, high performance sailing, catamaran tuning, or simply enjoy watching fast sailing, this one's for you.
