Our ship has been swinging to her anchor in the Hampton River (Virginia) for over a month now while I search for a weather window to set off for the Virgin Islands. We are in an active and persistent weather pattern of cold fronts exiting the US East coast but then stalling and lifting back north as warm fronts. Hence leaving on the northwesterlies behind the front will mean passing through a potentially nasty frontal boundary, and then encountering contrary, southerly winds on the other side. So we shall continue to wait in hopes that our weather fortunes soon change …
