So we begin our trek back to the northeast with an overnight run to Biscayne Bay from Marathon. Our promised southerly winds don’t show up until late into the night, but we reach Fowey Rocks by daybreak and sail into the sheltered bay waters through the Old Florida Channel. After that I look for southerly winds to blow me into the anchorage behind Miami Beach. I get southwesterlies, which is still OK but they quickly veer WNW, which is not. I have quite a close call trying to get through the first bridge. In the lee of the city, I use the dinghy as a push boat to get through the remaining two bridges.
