WE MADE IT! Difficult 4-Day Sail to the Tuamotus
Holly and Ray’s recent journey took them on a challenging four-day sail from the Marquesas Islands to the stunning, yet intimidating Tuamotus. The duo found themselves fighting through tough weather conditions while dealing with technical issues onboard. Despite the hardships faced during their voyage, they successfully made it to their desired location – the Tuamotus.
Sailing from Marquesas Islands
The adventure started as they left the Marquesas Islands with winds behind them. The sail began on a high note, filled with excitement and beautiful views. Holly sat contentedly munching on Cheetos while admiring the stunning scenery. Ray, on the other hand, was busy managing the sails and keeping their boat stable amidst the rough seas.
The Challenges Faced
During the sail, they encountered difficulties balancing the boat and adjusting the sails. Despite trying various solutions, nothing seemed to help as the small jib made it challenging for Ray. To top off their struggles, they ran low on water and couldn’t run the water maker due to poor conditions.
A Yellowfin Tuna
One of the high points during their sail was when they caught a yellowfin tuna. The catch brought excitement and hope to their otherwise difficult journey, but unfortunately didn’t solve their water supply issue.
Navigating Through Bommies
Upon arriving at the Tuamotus, Holly and Ray had to navigate through a narrow passage while avoiding numerous coral heads called bommies. Ideally, they would time their arrival with sunny calm conditions; however, during their sail, they faced poor visibility and rough winds.
A Memorable Anchorage
Despite the difficulties during their 4-day sail to the Tuamotus, Holly and Ray’s arrival was worth it. The beauty of the place captivated them completely, and they managed to find shelter within a safe anchorage. To celebrate, they hosted friends for a Sushi-making party using the yellowfin tuna.
The Excitement of Exploring
At the end of their journey, they acknowledged that the challenges were all worth it. Their anticipation to explore this new location kept them motivated during the difficult sail. Now that they’re settled in the Tuamotus, Holly and Ray are ready for more adventures, having conquered yet another obstacle on their incredible journey.
The Next Adventure
Holly and Ray’s exciting expedition continues with their next adventure in the Tuamotus, where they plan to check out the shore and potentially dive into pristine waters. Stay tuned for their upcoming updates on this thrilling exploration.
If it was easy, everyone would do it!
Join us for a not-so-enjoyable sail to the remote islands of the Tuamotus. 😩 We struggled to stay positive when the weather forecast was dead wrong, our chartplotter screen and mainsail lazy jack broke, and we found ourselves navigating through the narrow, unfamiliar pass dodging numerous bommies with terrible visibility and 25kn winds, despite our patience and careful planning. ðŸ’¨â›µï¸ Thankfully, we arrive safely, have a sushi-making party with friendsðŸ£, and appreciate the beauty around us even more because of the difficult journey… ðŸï¸
