Of course this isn’t Esper’s first sail per se, but this is the first time we’ve shaken out the sails since the refit. It also marks our first video in our Patreon campaign. There’s performing planes, fishing nets… and a before-and-after montage of Esper’s interior. Telaga sits at the foot of the Machincang mountain range that houses the famous Langkawi Cable Car. With Esper anchored outside the two man-made islands our friends Terry and Jayne anchor 200m away. Enticed by the prospect of cold beer they swim over in the warm waters. Helicopters and jets continue to practice their aeronautical feats as we watch the sunset.

Early next morning we make our way to Telaga marina in our dinghy to check out. The pink sunrise catches the tip of the mountains behind as we head towards the dinghy dock.

Telaga is one of two places on Langkawi where boats can check in and out. We make our way over to Telaga Harbour Park which houses the harbour master, immigration and customs. As we wait for the officials to turn up we spot a display case of confiscated goods, including guns, nude CD covers, fake viagra and carvings of savages with unfeasibly large appendages.

With Esper and her crew successfully checked out, we fill up Esper’s tanks with diesel and are ready to make the crossing over to the Butang Islands, 25 miles north west of Langkawi.

Do We Miss Sailing? | One Year Living on a Canal Boat | Casting Off Ep 064

It’s been exactly a year since we swapped our sailing boat for a widebeam canal boat, after nearly 20 years living afloat. How has it been — and do we have any regrets? Before reflecting on our first 12 months aboard Happidaze, we take a quick look at...

We DITCHED Our Toilet & Saved £300 💩 Separating Composting Toilet Installation🚽 | Ep 411

We decommission our electric pump-out toilet and replace it with a separating toilet, often called a composting toilet. Why would we do this? What was wrong with our old loo? At £25 a pump-out every four weeks, and a lack of pump-out facilities on the can...

One Last Job Before Continuous Cruising? Recommissioning Our Generator 🛠️ | Ep 410

There is no such thing as a 'last' job, because maintenance never ends on a boat, but recommissioning our diesel generator is essential if we want to be continual cruisers on the canals and waterways of England! It's been held up by a broken bolt that we ...
