After four months we finally get to see our boat’s topsides spray painted with Awlcraft. Since publishing this episode we have received a number of concerns on the health and safety of the painters and the equipment they used. I have lifted this recent reply on the subject from the comments below:
Whilst Liz mentions that our painters were suited there have been a number of comments on how appropriately suited they were (or weren’t). Something we’ve learned since the project is that the breathing apparatus used was not sufficient. We didn’t know this at the time; we are always learning. What equipment was actually used, however, was outside our control. We paid for a painting service and whilst we supplied suits and masks what apparatus they use locally is, ultimately, up to the painter. If anyone is genuinely concerned about this please forward your comments on to the boatyard or indeed the relevant Thai health authorities. Health and safety here is very different to the west.
