We Almost Quit Sailing

What was supposed to be a manageable overnight sail from the USVIs to St. Martin turned into one of the hardest passages we’ve experienced as a sailing family.

The forecast said one thing. The ocean gave us something completely different.

We found ourselves beating directly into the wind and waves, struggling to make progress and at times moving only **1–2 knots**. This was only our **second overnight sail as a family**, and somewhere in the middle of that long, exhausting night, we started asking ourselves a question we never expected:

**Did we make a huge mistake choosing this life?**

In Episode 14 of Finding Our Isla, we’re taking you along for the real side of cruising... the part that doesn’t always make the highlight reel.

After finally making it to **St. Martin**, life settles back into the rhythm of cruising: boat projects, provisioning adventures, celebrating Mother’s Day aboard Isla, and eventually pointing the bows south again toward **Nevis**.

Sailing isn’t always turquoise water, sunsets and perfect anchorages.

Sometimes it’s uncomfortable. Sometimes it’s exhausting. And sometimes the ocean makes you question everything.

But those might just be the moments that teach us the most.

⛵ **Come aboard Isla and experience the passage with us.**

If you enjoy real family sailing adventures, Caribbean cruising, boat life and the behind-the-scenes reality of raising a family at sea, **SUBSCRIBE** and join us as we keep sailing south.

👇 **QUESTION FOR YOU:**
Have you ever had an experience that made you seriously question a big decision you’d made? Tell us in the comments, we’d love to hear your story.

He Was NOT Giving Up 😂🦀

Apparently we went crab fishing. 😂🦀 This little guy spotted the food on our hook and was DETERMINED to get it. Watching those tiny claws try to hang on might be way more entertaining than actually fishing. 😂 Are you rooting for the crab or us? 👇 #Crab #Fishing #BoatLife #OceanLife #SailingFamily...

Our Ride Home Looks a Little Different… 🌅⛵

There's something pretty special about heading home at sunset… when home is floating somewhere out there. 🌅⛵ All five of us piled into the dinghy, salty, tired and watching the sky change colors as we made our way back to Isla. Three years into this adventure, and moments like this still don&...

I Was SO Confident Too… 😂

I was SO confident. 😂 Kasey was looking for fuel stabilizer, and I was positive he was digging through the cleaning supplies. “It's not in there.” Narrator: It was, in fact, in there. 🤦‍♀️😂 Living on a boat means knowing exactly where everything is stored… until apparently you don't. ...

We Went Up to FIX Something… Then Broke THIS 😳⛵

Nothing is ever just ONE project on a sailboat. 😂⛵ Ashton headed up the mast to inspect the rigging and make sure everything looked good. Then, because apparently the boat felt like our project list wasn't long enough… we broke the electric winch. 🤦‍♀️ Boat project math: 1 thing to check + ...
