SAILING THE FORGOTTEN COAST x HIENGHENE x NEW CALEDONIA

Impi is a catamaran sailing around the world having left South Africa some years ago.
Now cruising the waters of New Caledonia, we return from the Loyalty Islands to sail down what is referred to as ‘The Forgotten Coast’ – THE EAST COAST OF NEW CALEDONIA.
Hienghene is a territory steeped in political history and influence and despite its bloodstained history, the beauty and magnificence, not only in nature, but also in the people who live here, makes this truly an intriguing, fascinating and adventurous visit.
The French have done an amazing job at recording the history of the territories – a brief study of this before visiting will make the experience sweeter, especially when chatting to the locals about their former leader – Jean Marie Tjibaou.
Oh, and lets not forget these amazing black limestone cliffs that rise up out of the ocean to greet the sun … jagged and torn, they transport one back in time, and look not too carefully and here you will see many a sea hawk nurturing their young … AMAZING visit, AMAZING place and AMAZING people – HIENGHENE
