In this episode we repair the DC lighting in our Catalina 30 sailboat. Leaks are something that most boat owners have to deal with on an ongoing basis, as seals begin to age and water begins to seep in through the tiniest of cracks.

Here is a link to the lights we are using: https://amzn.to/33hcDkT

When we purchased the boat, all of the DC lighting was broken and cracked, so we decided to take it all out and replace it with LED lights. We absolutely love this low energy lighting and it keeps the boat well lit, even during the dark days of winter. Unfortunately, some of those lights began to leak when the rainy season hit which caused a couple of them to corrode and no longer work. In this video we replace the broken lights and seal up the other ones using epoxy. Instead of screwing the lights into the ceiling (which caused leaks in the cabin) we decided to use heavy duty double sided tape to mount them! So far it has been holding up really well and we are happy to have lighting in the boat again!

* Disclaimer: We are definitely not professionals when it comes to electrical work, so please do your own research and think about safety when working with any electrical systems! We made sure to turn off the breaker and feel we minimized any possible risk, but it is always good to double check. If you are unsure, it might be best to consult a pro!

If you are new to the channel, Blue Moon is a 1978 Catalina 30 sailing vessel which we acquired in 2020. One year later we decided it was time for a road trip and built out a 1998 Delica to drive across the country. Now we live aboard the boat full-time, take weekend trips in the van, and explore this beautiful world.

Thanks for watching!
