Join seasoned sailor and marine expert Adventureman Dan for an adrenaline-fueled journey as he navigates the treacherous waters of the 260 nautical mile-long Mona Passage from Puerto Rico to his beloved haven, Luperon in the Dominican Republic.

In this unforgettable video episode, Dan recounts a particularly harrowing crossing that saw him and his intrepid crew member, Dennis, narrowly avoid disaster as they were nearly hit by an unaware cruise ship in the dead of night. Despite these challenges, they continued to make the most out of their remarkable open-ocean voyage.

This gripping tale starts with Dan and Dennis departing from Puerto Rico, eager to conquer the treacherous stretch of water between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. They are well-prepared, having carefully studied weather forecasts and navigational charts in advance.

Technical Details and Challenges

Their crossing proved to be filled with both thrilling triumphs and harrowing moments of danger. During the voyage, Dan skillfully maneuvered his sailboat ‘Adventureborn’ while keeping his crew entertained and safe by cooking nourishing meals, engaging in leisurely activities like music sessions, playing games, and capturing the experience on camera.

Close Encounter with a Cruise Ship

In a moment that could have easily turned into tragedy, the sailors narrowly avoided a near-collision with an oncoming cruise ship. Despite having their AIS (Automatic Identification System) off, they managed to use their own vigilance and excellent seamanship skills to stay safe.

Finally making it to Luperon, Dan is filled with a mixture of relief and excitement. With the help of friends who join them in navigating their way into a mooring ball, they celebrate their successful journey.
