On a pristine island, we find a beach full of plastic and garbage. Upon discovering that this is a popular spot for local families from the nearby town to come on the weekends, where they seem to leave all of their trash behind, we take it upon ourselves to clean up the beach. We pick up as much plastic and trash as we can carry, and leave a sign made out of seashells on the edge of the cliff saying “Don’t Throw It Out” in Spanish.
Trash management is a problem here, as in many isolated communities around the world with limited resources, but we try to make a difference and change behavior. it is truly a sad sight to see this, especially of the plastic, in one of Mexico’s amazing islands in the Sea of Cortez.
