Back on the Move: First Sail of 2024 – Episode 312

With four days until they needed to leave Harwich Port, Robin and Steve knew it was time to get moving. All the summer boats were arriving, and slips were quickly being claimed.1 They had two days before needing to set sail, and it would be a good opportunity to visit Robin’s mom in Western Massachusetts, who needed some much-needed appointments with her sister. So, as they prepared for the upcoming voyage, they began removing unnecessary items from the boat—like their winter clothes and boots—and packed up fenders and heavy dock lines that were no longer required.Video Episode Details:The previous winter had tested their boat, Arabella, especially during a significant storm in Rockland where they were preparing to be hauled out the following day. As they weathered the storm, Josh from the Schooner Hindu approached them with a kind gesture.2 He brought over large beefy dock lines that Robin and Steve had been using all winter. They took up a significant amount of room and were not necessary for the upcoming sailing season. With a thankful heart, Robin took these lines off the boat and put them in storage, hoping they wouldn’t need them next winter. The Journey to Western MassAfter a long winter sitting still in Port, the day finally arrived for moving Arabella from Harwich to Marion. Lucky for Steve, Robin was able to accompany him and go out for their first sail of 2024.3 Robin woke up in Asbury at 4 am and met Steve and their boat at Buzzard’s Bay Yacht Services, where they had spent the past crazy weeks before launch. After a quick walk around the yard, which seemed busy with other boats getting ready for launch, Steve and Robin quickly set everything in place for their exciting journey.
