We Woke up to a Tsunami Warning!! An Unusual Day in Boat Life

It’s not every day while living on a boat that you wake up to a Tsunami advisory! On Saturday, January 15th, a volcanic eruption in the Tonga Islands caused the Province of BC to issue a Tsunami advisory, and our little floating home was right in the warning zone!

At first, we were a bit concerned because the government was recommending people avoid coastal areas, including marinas (like the one we live in!). Thankfully, there was minimal wave impact in our region and the boat was not disturbed!

We ended up having a fun morning off the boat while we set out for high ground and enjoyed some take-out breakfast.

Jonas also decided to chop off his man-bun and spring for a new hairstyle after almost two years of growing his hair!

This video shows you a not-so-typical day in the boat life, and it is also a good representation of all the weird things that can happen when living aboard. We are very thankful this was a minor incident. We recognize Tsunamis are a serious risk where we live and this was good practice in case there is ever a more serious emergency!
