This episode we make beautiful walnut countertops for our tiny home on wheels…from scratch, outside, in the snow❄

Our Airstream build was really testing us up to this point. And the short cold snowy Canadian winter days weren’t helping…but this day really helped to lift & brighten our spirits!🌞
It was a pretty good feeling, to be able to craft gorgeous countertops for our home, using wood from a beautiful walnut tree, with our OWN TWO HANDS.
We had never made countertops before. We had never milled wood before! Without fancy tools or a workspace we rigged up a way to make our countertops outdoors, ourselves (!) and that left us feeling pretty dang proud.
The snow gently falling on the tree canopy above us.. the smell of freshly cut wood. The joy of creative expression we felt as we arranged and glued each unique piece of walnut to create a beautiful wooden mosaic. Something we would get to use an admire for years to come!

FYI | Our Countertop Process
We considered other countertop options like laminate, Corian as well as many different types of wood. In the end we went with walnut because its a natural material & something we felt personally connected to. In the world of trees, walnut is a beautiful durable wood that will hold up well over time. Milling it ourselves was tedious but rewarding. We then craft fully arranged & glued (using CA and wood glue) each panel to plywood and left it to cure overnight.

WHO WE ARE
We are a couple from opposite sides of the world making life together in a teeny-tiny 160 square feet.
Our current tiny home is a vintage Airstream trailer nestled in the woods here in the Canadian Pacific Northwest! We like to call her our adventure basecamp!
Sounds dreamy right? Well let us tell you that it isn’t as easy as it looks & the process of building our dream tiny home on wheels (in just 60 days) was freaking hard!!!
When we’re not enduring these self-imposed suffer-fests (i.e. our DIY projects & long grueling hikes up mountainsides) you’ll find us out on the ocean, living and sailing around the PNW on our little sailboat. She’s a Catalina 30 and we’ve been enjoying the challenge of restoring her & teaching ourselves how to sail!
OUR STORY
I (Allison, the Newfie) met James (the Aussie) while working on a remote island 3 years ago.
A decade working in healthcare has helped us both to appreciate the preciousness of this one beautiful life we’ve been given.
Viewing TIME as our most valuable gift, we’ve been feeling an urgency in our lives to Live All Out!
We decided to make some BOLD moves, hit PAUSE on our conventional careers & work full time, turning our DREAMS into reality.
This is the beginning of our YouTube journey & over the next few weeks we will be sharing our first steps towards making full-time adventure possible.
We’ll be posting weekly videos that document our DIY projects, tiny-home living & our land & sea adventures.
