At last, we shove off the dock from Neah Bay and do the “big left turn!” We experience varied winds that keep is busy through the first four days of our seven day trip to Drakes Bay, as the crew all settle into their first offshore experience. Unfortun...
2023 was full of stress, heartbreak, amazing times and big movement forward. We accomplished a lot and realized we had a lot more to do to rebuild this sailboat of ours than we had thought.

The pneumatic needle gun is one of the best tools for removing rust from a boat. Not something we love to use, but it definitely does the job when we need it!
After so much time and work, tearing things apart on our sailboat, we are finally putting parts of the bow back on! We clean up the bow roller and the windlass and get ready to put them back on the boat!

We've been looking forward to releasing this one for awhile! In this one, we finally leave our home ports behind for Mexico! We set sail from Bellingham Harbor, sail through the fog to Lopez Island, then to Port Townsend. In Port Townsend, we check out the...
Months after taking our floor apart to get to our water tanks, we finally get to the point where it’s time to put them back together, but of course it’s not as simple as just putting a couple of lids back on…. Welcome to a steel boat restoration 😂...
After taking our engine out to fix a few things on our sailboat, we are ready to reinstall it. But it turns out that taking an engine out can be quite a bit different than putting it back in...

In this one, we set sail from Nanaimo for our last couple of stops in the Gulf Islands before leaving them behind for what will be at least a few years. Once at anchored on Gabriola, we are swarmed by thousands of little flies, so we abandond ship and head...

It’s haul out time for Sea Dream of Clyde! In this one, we head to Newcastle Marine in Nanaimo to have the boat lifted out of the water and moved into the shipyard for our by-annual painting and general maintenance. I show the wet sanding technique we us...
For two years now we have been working to restore and rebuild our 40 ft Van De Stadt Norman 40 steel sailboat. This was not the plan when we bought her and very little has gone to plan since then, but after two years of cutting, welding and painting, we a...
We have been in a boat shed for two years now. How that time has even passed is beyond me, but here we are. Our steel sailboat has transformed from a swiss cheese pile of steel to a painted hull with an interior still in pieces... and you have had some q...
It is not always sunshine and rainbows in the Gulf Islands, though most the time it is! In this one, we leave the San Juans behind and head up to Nanaimo, but not before running into a frustrating customs agent, a log, and diesel spill! We stop by Prevost ...
After two years of being on land with our steel sailboat, we are finally ready to paint the outside of the hull and the deck. But we have never done this kind of painting and we aren't sure we have the right equipment... plus the weather has taken a turn f...
