Here it is, our first sailing log of 2016!
We've made it an extra big one to help keep those in the northern hemisphere entertained over the long winter nights.
If you've been following us, you'll know that 2015 was full of ups and downs aboard SY Esper....
We spent the weekend in London staying on the beautiful floating super yacht Hotel, the Sunborn, moored up at the side of the Excel Exhibition Centre at The Royal Victoria Dock, where we visited the London 2016 Boat Show.
We started on the next chapter of ...
Watch us run around like chipmunks in time-lapse mode as we pull the mast. Pretty interesting to see her become completely detached and lifted away. Also, enjoy the Video Breakdown by Yours Truly!
The Shards round Cabo de Gata and find isolated anchorages at the foot of the dramatic Costa Blance mountain ranges including some where the beaches are "clothing optional". They visit ports along the way that were once important Roman mining colonies. Lat...
Just a few last detachments (just a few, I swear!). This mast pull prep is no effin joke. But all that's left now are the rods holding her up. Here comes the crane!
March, 2015- Phucket, Thailand. We work like dogs to finish up the rigging project. We make awesome progress but run into some problems with our forestay and the Ronstan pins provided. All is sorted by the awesome shop at Rolly Tasker and we move onto s...
You guys watch closely, because we're counting on you to help us put all of this crap back together. Preparing the boat to pull the mast turned into one heap of a mess, but don't let it get you down! Getting that stringer fixed will get us one step close...
Distant Shores Season 1-1
Paul and Sheryl Shard complete a transatlantic passage aboard their 11-metre sailboat, "Two-Step", and enter the Mediterranean Sea where they make landfall in Gibraltar. Next, they sail over to Ceuta on the North African coast. Th...
We put Delos to the test in a fun little match race against Wild One, a Barramundi 470 cruising catamaran. Enjoy :)

This is an interview of Martin from Wild One, a Barramundi 470
catamaran. Martin's already done one circumnavigation and is still going so he knows quite a bit about the pro's and con's of a cruising catamaran. If you'd like to know more about Wild One c...
The only really bad thing about rod rigging is that she doesn't show her age, but we knew, at 30+ years, our original rods were getting up there. If we wanted to sail south next season, a re-rig was in high order. Let the debate begin ... rod versus wire...
The crew gets amongst it and dives head first into changing the rig on our Amel Super Maramu. We pull down the old wires in sections, then head off to the rigging shop to cut, measure, and press our own swages. The whole crew pitches in to make it happen...
Sadly we are unable to spend our Christmas together this year but we still managed to put together a little festive message for you, wherever you are in the world.

We've got a TON of projects coming up kids, so I wanted to give you a little glimpse of what it is that motivates us when we're doing all of this scraping, cleaning, sanding and prepping. Plenty of cruising vids at https://havewindwilltravel.com/.
In our last episode of 2015 we go night sailing, take in Thailand's first marine national park island, discuss near-by boat refugees, spend the night on a slope and yes, we make it back to the shipyard to begin those repairs... (con't)

This is our boat Esper at anchor on the south west tip of Ko Lanta, Thailand. It was shot with the Splash Drone, which you can get here: www.fpvfactory.com.
We'll be using the Splash Drone in our regular video diary, which we publish every fortnight. Our ...
Because sometimes it just does, although our takeaway here was: check your chafe points. But, we were surprised to see our mast (even with a rotten base) stood up to some of the heaviest forces she has ever seen. This was, easily, our worst sail ever on ...
This is simply an experiment in slow-motion video editing. A few minutes recorded on our crossing from Ao Chalong to Koh Lanta in Thailand. We hope to include more slo-mo footage in our video diary so this was just a bit of fun. Realise the opening shot sh...
With the season for crossing the Indian Ocean slowly closing and after finding a broken strand in Delos’s rigging the crew head for Phuket to figure out what to do next! On the way we spot some Jelly Fisherman and try and break through the language barri...
Cuba! I'm kidding (sort of). Maybe. There and 1,000 other places. I'll share our (very vague) plans but we're less than a year out and--believe me--that's not near enough time. (But it never is.) A big shout-out to just a few of the other wanderlusts...
The crew starts sailing through the amazing islands of southern Thailand, AKA Phad Thai Paradise! We swim through a cave to an awesome Hong, track down The Beach made so famous from Leonardo Di Cappuccino's movie, check out the crazy party spot of Koh Phi ...
Before we tell you where we're going, I thought it might help to know where we've been. In fact, I wrote it all down for you in my first sailing book -- SALT OF A SAILOR (FREE TODAY on Kindle): http://www.amazon.com/Salt-Sailor-origins-durable-not-so-dain...
Time to get real people. I've had a great time making entertaining videos but it seems folks want to know the REAL STORY. Well, this is it. The story of me. Stay tuned for the Keys to the Kingdom book launch at https://havewindwilltravel.com/.
