In this video we sail from Santa Barbara to Catalina Island. We have a wonderful time sailing under spinnaker for most of that 90 nautical mile trip, allowing us to arrive with plenty of daylight left in the day. Along the way we have a spinnaker jibe go wrong, wrapping the spinnaker around the forestay twice and adding some rips to the spinnaker along the foot. Then right after that we caught a small fish.
The day after we arrived in Avalon, we got to swim with Pyrosomes, which we refer to as “Sea Wieners”. They’re amazing colonies of creatures that get as big as a person, if not bigger! These were relatively small sea wieners, but boy were they abundant!
Ira caught another fish, giving us a great meal for the evening, and after exploring Avalon for a few days, we head out to the more rural reaches of Catalina.
