Ever heard of an Island Spirit catamaran?
We hadn’t either. We really like the layout of this one though, so we booked a survey and sea trial to see if this is the one!
We brought along Brokerus Amazingus Ian Edmonson and Thea Koshman from Catamaran Guru. Thea is the selling broker and she’s been a great source of local information for us. the sellers rounded out the team with Captain George and we hired Jonathan Sands to carry out the survey. All aboard, we set sail up the ICW, ducked out into the ocean, and in to Marinetown for a haul-out.
It was an eye opener!

SDA256 Keys to the Deep

There’s a grand piano and a mermaid sitting on the bottom off Rudder Cut Cay, and getting down to see them is a little more work than it looks. We’re anchored at Rudder Cut Cay, where I dive the Musician, a grand piano with a mermaid at the bench commissioned by David Copperfield to entertain his g...

SDA255 Flying the Spinnaker

here’s something unsettling about seeing a standing wave across the cut you’re about to enter. I start out exploring the shallow southern shoreline of Stocking Island on my paddleboard, soaking up the clear water before we head offshore. Dave shows us how he rigs the spinnaker, and once it’s flyin...

SDA254 Unexpected Shark

Murky water is bad enough when you know there could be something nearby. Finding out later just how curious the local sharks can be doesn’t help. We’re at Sand Dollar Beach in Elizabeth Harbour, where murky water makes my anchor dive a little more uncomfortable than usual. We snorkel what was once...

SDA253 Chasing Coolant

We were running hot in Georgetown, and so were the Volvos. The only thing harder than cooling ourselves off was finding coolant for the engines. We’re anchored in Kidd’s Cove, searching Georgetown for strangely elusive coolant for our long-suffering Volvo Penta diesels. Back aboard Dark Angel, we ...

SDA252 Creepy Cassiopea

There are some things you expect to find while diving the anchor. A sea floor covered in pulsing jellyfish brains isn't one of them. We’re at Sand Dollar Beach, where I make a creepy discovery while diving the anchor in murkier than usual water. Upside-down jellyfish called Cassiopea are ancho...

SDA251 Threading the Needle

A beautiful, easy passage into the Exumas ends with Dark Angel threading her way through shallow water, coral and rocks. We cruise from Long Island to Hog Cay Cut in the Exumas. Dave pulls the new port engine raw water pump to track down an oil leak and discovers the supplied O-ring was oversized, ...
