After 11 days at sea, St Helena felt like the perfect place to stop, reset and catch our breath.
But this tiny island in the middle of the South Atlantic turned out to be far more than just a convenient stopover.
We explored Jamestown, tackled Jacob’s Ladder far too many times, hiked through some of the island’s wildest landscapes, swam with a ray that appeared beside the boat, met some fascinating people along the way, and got a look inside one of the tiny boats competing in the Mini Globe Race.
We also discovered just how much history is packed into this little rock — from old fortifications and Napoleon’s exile to shipwrecks still lying beneath the anchorage.
St Helena surprised us in all the best ways.
