Last Stop in Croatia & the Wind Goes Crazy!
We set off from Pučišća to Vela Luka on a 32 nautical mile journey—our last stop in Croatia before the big night crossing to Italy. What should have been a calm preparation day turned into a test of nerves and equipment.
Near a quiet bay, the wind suddenly picked up—blowing 30 knots and gusting to 40. I had to use Dyneema line to reinforce the solar panel mounts and protect the system that powers our entire boat. It was rough, loud, and totally unexpected.

Sailing Electra
In late 2021 we bought a 1976 Catalac 9M catamaran sight unseen that had been wasting away on land for years. Flew to Europe to go check it out and discovered the engines were seized, the wiring a death trap and every through hull valve crumbled when touched. I'd been building ebikes and scooters for years and decided I'd repower it as an electric. My wife and I spent 4 months peeling away all the rot, and pulling out all the wiring so we could start again from scratch. Eight months of very hard work in some icy cold weather and the boat was finally ready for the water. It now has two 6kW electric outboards, 3200W of solar and a 14.4kwh lithium battery bank. We've taken it from Croatia where we bought it, to Venice and then all the way through Croatia, back to Italy and now to Greece where we are today. We run everything off solar, the motors, cooking, making water and heating it, we even have a washing machine and dishwasher! We love this boat 🙂
