Round the World Yacht Voyage Begins in New Zealand
Our journey of circumnavigation commenced in New Zealand, known for its striking beauty and rugged coastline. After initial hurdles like repairng hurricane damage on the deck, we set off with an ambitious goal – to make it around the world without giving up.
New Crew Joins Parlay’s Quest
We picked up Koda and Jamie as our new crew members for this leg of our voyage. It was exciting to have fresh energy on board, eager to tackle the open waters.
Fibreglass Supplies Run Dry, But Good Fortune Follows
The necessity of buying more fibreglass supplies took us to a nearby town, where we came across M10 Mega. The store owner, Ben, generously offered us over $11,000 worth of goods at cost price – a very welcome surprise!
Surfing Sessions, Celebrations, and Sail Drive Troubles
In the midst of our journey, we enjoyed surfing sessions in places like Ocean Beach. As the crew grew, so did the need to maintain and troubleshoot the yacht’s systems. A problem arose with the sail drive which needed urgent attention.
Around Cape Renga
After fixing several problems, we finally made it to Opua, near the northern tip of New Zealand – Cape Ranga. Despite the challenging conditions and engine troubles, we persevered.
The Engine Knocking Sound Mystery
We encountered an unsettling knocking sound from the starboard engine when we tried sailing towards the southern coast of New Zealand. Upon further inspection, it was clear that something was wrong with the sail drive’s clutch assembly.
As engineers and avid sailors, my partner Colin and I took on this repair task together, illustrating the practical solutions for viewers at home who might encounter similar issues with their own boats or yachts.
A Glimmer of Hope Amidst Challenges
Through our highs and lows during these incredible moments in New Zealand waters, it became abundantly clear that we couldn’t have done this without the viewers following us. Your support has kept us going, and we can’t thank you enough.
