HELP! I Need a Doctor! 🩺 Remote Medical Care for Cruisers with Pelagic Medical

What happens when you have a medical emergency days away from a hospital? A few months ago while out exploring the Sea of Cortez, we faced every liveaboard's nightmare: Pat needed minor surgery right in the cockpit of Noeta!

While Pat recovered completely fine, the experience was a massive wake-up call that our onboard medical kit—and our remote medical knowledge—simply wasn't up to par for ocean cruising.

In this episode, we partner with Pelagic Medical to completely overhaul our offshore medical setup! Founded by Dr. Kai Engstad (a board-certified cardiac surgeon, mariner, and pilot), Pelagic Medical bridges the gap between basic commercial first-aid boxes and real offshore medical emergency response.

We break down:

The Cockpit Incident: What happened in the Sea of Cortez and what we learned.

Physician-Designed Kits: Exploring the Coastal, Bluewater, and Expedition waterproof hard-case kits equipped with labeled pouches and clear protocol manuals.

Physician Access: How their 24/7 concierge medical practice connects you directly with a doctor who knows your personal medical history, your boat, and your route before you ever leave the dock.

Onboard Clinical Training: How crew training works for real-world procedures like wound closure, diagnostic checks, and trauma response.

In This Episode:

00:56 - Introducing Pelagic Medical & Dr. Kai Engstad
