He Did Everything Right. His Captain Still Blamed Him.

A guy learns to sail, earns his certifications, and signs on to crew a delivery to San Diego with two strangers who talked a big game about their offshore miles. On his watch the autopilot quits. The wind builds, the seas build, and when he calls for help to reef, the captain is too seasick to move and the rest of the crew won't come on deck. So he reefs alone, navigates through the storm, and single-hands the boat back into harbor.
Then the captain wakes up and blames him.
He did everything right. He'd never been taught to heave-to, because nobody ever brought it up.
That story, and a stack of emails I get every week from people who dream about this life but can't find the door into it, is why I'm writing my next book: Be The Crew. It's for the new sailor, the career-changer, the 77-year-old who wants to earn his place on a good boat. Whether or not you've ever set foot on a deck.
If any of that sounds like you, I want to hear from you. The survey is 7 questions, takes 3 minutes, and everyone who fills it out gets the first chapter free and a real say in how this book takes shape:
