We thought our biggest problem was a broken dinghy… until one of our engines refused to start and a massive wave came crashing through the front door of our boat.
After six hours troubleshooting the engine in the Florida heat, Steve finally got us moving again. But our first real day sailing north quickly went from calm seas and sunshine to complete chaos. One open door, one massive wave, and suddenly our cabin, electronics, cabinets—and everything we owned—were soaked.
Between engine trouble, seasickness, family tension, a huge sailfish breaking the line, and the realities of learning a brand-new boat, this episode is a pretty honest look at what family sailing life is really like.
But somehow, the hardest days still end with a sunset, music, laughter, and the reminder that we don’t always get it right—but we never stop choosing each other.

We spent 15 years working multiple jobs, living BELOW our means, saving every penny we could and investing in real-estate. Well the year of Covid hit and we thought, what the hell let's freaking go, kids and all! The first thing Steve said when he walked onto our boat "It smells like freedom!" We completed our first year of sailing, sold our sailboat Banana Pancakes, in hopes of purchasing a newer one. We didn't find the right boat so we headed back to Idaho. It's been 2 years since then and we are once again ready to go, this time for at least 5 years. We are currently boat shopping and plan on setting sail soon for Seson 2 of Banana Pancakes.
