This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, The World on Water, February 02, 2024.

The Ilca 7 Men’s World Championships, and Olympics qualification was held this week at the Adelaide Sailing Club, in South Australia. British Olympic Ilca Coach, Jon Emmet, was there and here are his reports on what happened in the two last days. His first, is for, Day 5.

Luuc van Opzeeland, of the Netherlands, and Emma Wilson, of Great Britain, lead after the first races of the i-Q FOiL, World Championships, on Day 2.
After losing the first day of racing to no wind, the second day proved long and more productive. The wind fluctuated between 10 and 15 knots, gusty at times. There was a change of race course during the day, moving from being in front of the marina, to Papagayo beach.

The Swan River Etchells Fleet is proud to announce that the International Etchells Class 2024 Etchells World Championship will be sailed on the waters off Fremantle, Western Australia, from 15th March to 22nd March 2024. Our preview report includes long time Australian Etchells sailor, John Bertrand.

The Arkea Ultim Challenge Race around the world, has another boat stopping for repairs. At the time of editing, Thomas Coville, of Sodebo, is in Hobart Tasmania, where his shore team is making safety repairs. This makes every yacht except leader, Edmund de Rothschild, has made at least one repair stop. Meanwhile, out in front, Charles Caudrelier, comtinues to blast towards Cape Horn.

Adelaide witnessed an exhilarating medal race on the final day of the Ilca 7 Men’s World Championships.
Australia’s Matt Wearn, has clinched his second Ilca 7 World Championship, in the last 12 months, after a strong week of sailing. Wearn had a consistent event from start to finish, only once falling outside the top six in any given race, and finished with a dominant victory in the 10-boat medal race. The wins sets Wearn up for the Paris Olympics as he considers the potential of back-to-back Olympic Gold Medals.
