This is your weekly global Sailing highlights show, the World on Water, May 10, 2024. It was a big day for New York Yacht Club's, American Magic, who called for all-hands on deck at the base super-early this week, ahead of rolling out their new AC75 at 5 45 a m, with the first set of slightly asymmetric race foils, rudder, and rig, all in place and revealing an interesting deck layout putting the helms and trimmers side by side, and well forward. This is a boat bristling with design features and quirks, and plenty of systems upgrades, translated across from their warhorse AC75, of the last America’s Cup. Now it’s all on to try and bring it home ot the New York Yacht Club. After three good races on day 3 on the Bay of Palma, each with a different winner, Andy Soriano’s brand new Alegre, leads the 52 SUPER SERIES PalmaVela Sailing Week, but only a tie break ahead of Doug DeVos’s, Quantum Racing powered by American Magic. With Aussie Olympic medallist, Will Ryan, and Brit Nic Asher, combining on strategy and tactics, and the owner Soriano steering, Alegre, won the second race of the day complementing a second in the first contest, and a third in the third, scoring best in the fleet. Meanwhile a thrilling Thursday title tussle was on the cards after no racing was possible Wednesday due to very strong winds on Mallorca’s world renowned Bay of Palma. After a two-year hiatus, the 53rd edition of Antigua Sailing Week, was brimming with success. The trade winds blew all week, with the international fleet enjoying exhilarating racing in sailing paradise. The compliments from sailors from the four corners of the earth are over-flowing for Antigua Sailing Week which is back, and here to stay. All of the class winners, bareboat overall, and the Lord Nelson Trophy winner at Antigua Sailing Week, were awarded Locman Italy watches at the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Final Awards Ceremony, in Nelson’s Dockyard Antigua. The first IMOCAs are approaching New York! This is the latest Race Report from The Transat CIC with Thomas Jullien, measurer for the IMOCA Class. Strategy, weather forecasts, conditions on board. It will explain everything! Ergin Imre’s Provezza crew laid to rest some of their past bad memories of racing on the Bay of Palma when they clinched the first title of the 52 SUPER SERIES 2024 season at 52 SUPER SERIES PalmaVela Sailing thanks to a spectacular victory in the final race. With a new boat due to come on stream later for August their hard earned win is a fitting farewell to the TP52 which took Ergin Imre’s Turkish flagged team to a painfully close second place overall last season as well as two event wins, in Saint Tropez and Scarlino. The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet. People from around the world and diverse walks of life train to become ocean racing sailors. This unique, epic event sees teams battle extreme conditions as they race more than 40,000 nautical miles in a true test of fortitude and determination. It was an exciting start with a stiff breeze and a small but lumpy sea state. The crew on Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam as you can see are committed to making this leg to Panama a competitive one.
