It’s been a big week for the leader of the Arkea Ultim Challenge Brest, as a huge storm rolled through the finish area and Charles Caudrelier had to stop in the Azores and wait until it’s safe to finish. On Monday it was his 50th birthday. He resumed racing on the weekend.
Meanwhile, in second place, Thomas Coville has crossed the Equator, whilst the race’s three other sailors, are climbing the South Atlantic.

French solo racer Charles Caudrelier, skipper of the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild crossed the finish line off the coast of Brest, this Tuesday morning at 8 37 42 hours local time to win the first ever solo multihull race around the world, sailed in giant 32 meter long Ultim class trimarans.
His elapsed time is 50 days, 19 hours and 7 minutes and 42 seconds since leaving Brest, in the six boat fleet, on Sunday 7th January.
The other big sailing event this week has been the RORC, Caribbean 600, which finished in Antigua.
The Royal Ocean Racing Club has announced that the Farr 100, Leopard 3, skippered by Joost Schuijff, is the overall winner of the 2024 Caribbean 600, Second is Niklas Zennstrom’s, Carkeek 52, Rán, whichwon a highly competitive IRC Zero Class, by just three minutes, after time correction, from Peter and David Askew’s, Botin 52, Wizard.
The 2024 Teakle Classic Lincoln Week Regatta is wrapped up, and the winners have been crowned!
They are:
Division 1 IRC, – Hooligan, Marcus Blackmore,
Division 2 IRC, – Game On 31, Julian Newton,
Division 3 AMS, – Born to Mentor, Simon Turvey,
Sportsboat National Champions, – Don’t Panic, Julian Bethwaite.
Today, the ILCA 7 fleet in the 2024 Ilca Senior European Champions completed three races, bringing the total trials for the championship to eight.
Finnish sailor Valtteri Uusitalo made an impressive debut as a Senior European medalist, clinching the Gold prize by finishing atop the fleet after eight races with a total of 42 points.
Maria Erdi of Hungary clinched her first-ever European championship title, adding to her accolades as the reigning World champion from the previous year in The Hague.

The Kiwi led SailGP circus desended upon Sydney for their 2024 event and they started by renaming an iconic Island in Sydney harbour.
If this continues at all their events, will they rename Alcatraz to the DeLorean Rock, the Statue of Liberty to, the Pontiac Park etc.
On the water the local team was able to take out the event as their rival skipper on the New Zealand boat was away on “Daddy Duty’. In the end it was Australia against Denmark. Tom Slingsby came out on top and downed the obligitory “Shoey”.
