The first Arkea Ultim Challenge, Brest’s, first leg to the first cape in their around the world race, was definitely a disaster.
First boat to suffer damage was Armel’s, Banque Populaire, which had to divert to Brazil, to have their shore team fix its bow pulpit. He had a 24 hour stop over.
Then Tom, in SVR Lazartigue, hit an “unidentified Floating Object”, and it caused a large water inngress. He diverted to Cape Town.
Then Anthony suffered a similar fate on Actual, Eric ,the same, on Adagio. They both are in Cape Town.
Thomas also had hydrolic problems on Sodebo, but he fixed them without stopping.
That’s 5 out of the 6 yachts, in the small fleet, with damages. Only three are sailing, with another 3 at the time of editing, ashore in Cape Town.
Meanwhile Charles, in Edmund de Rothschild, is in the Pacific breaking speed records.
At the time of publishing this video, Actual, and Adagio, have rejoined the race, but Tom, in SVR Lazartigue, is still in Cape Town undergoing repairs.
