MIndelo has survived and endured more than many cities in it’s hits rich history. Discovered by the Portuguese, then ignored because of its barren landscape. Yet it had a safe natural port strategically located in the middle of the Atlantic. Pirates had been hiding there, but it was not settled. Eventually the Portuguese began a settlement. One that was celebrated and ridiculed. This kind of back and forth continued for centuries. And the people living there developed a different way of thinking out of pure survival. They became anarchist and in a way pirates. Living for today, because tomorrow may be worse. That is why Mindeleses are the most free society in Cape Verde. And that is why the historic endurance of Mindelo prevails even now during the global pandemic. The people here have seen worse and will prevail. Like us sailors who also live in the moment, this pandemic is just another obstacle to hurdle. And we will.

An older dude who feels 30 sails the world on a small yacht and tells his live large adventures. Follow him from the beginning when he looks for a sailboat and buys it. Earns his Swiss offshore sailing license and refits his boat. Then sails alone from the south of France along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again. He recovers from hip replacement surgery and sails on to the great African continent where few sailors dare to go. His story is one of an old geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. So hang on, eat, dance, laugh, love and discover the world with him and his boat Galopin. It’s their Winded Voyage. A real living adventure series.
