After a wake up call of what it’s like to sail in these Cape Verdean waters by breaking something, we sail into a favorite bay of ours to make repairs. Our man Peixe begins by fishing for dinner. Then cooking a fried fish dinner under an orange sky. And in the morning he’s up on the mast fixing the broken pulley bracket. Later the dinghy goes flipping upside down during a powerful gust. I have lots of repairs going back in Mindelo but take time to go way up on the hills to a party in a house made of flattened oil barrels and a fish BBQ on a classic Scandinavia vessel. This week it’s all about fishing, frying, fixing and flipping.

Earns his Swiss offshore sailing license and refits his boat. Then sails alone from the south of France along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again. He recovers from hip replacement surgery and sails on to the great African continent where few sailors dare to go. His story is one of an old geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. So hang on, eat, dance, laugh, love and discover the world with him and his boat Galopin. It’s their Winded Voyage. A real living adventure series.
