Discovering New Adventures with WanderSailing
It has been one year since the last video from WanderSailing, and six years since their last Vlog update. A lot can change in such a time, so let’s journey back together as they catch us up on all that has happened.
The team continued sailing the Sea of Cortez aboard their beloved Briam Mia, a 34ft Catalina for two more seasons. Between these adventures at sea, they ventured across Europe to visit Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. What follows next is an enthralling tale that blends freedom, innovation, and adventure.
A Journey of Van Life
In between their sailing adventures, WanderSailing ventured into the realm of Van life. They purchased a Sprinter in Quebec for an epic road trip across the West Coast and got hooked on vanlife. Upon arriving in British Columbia, they seized a fantastic deal on another Sprinter. This was an empty canvas that provided them with an opportunity to design their own ideal mobile home.
However, the engine was not working initially. For two months, the team struggled through hellish challenges of fixing and working on the engine. Eventually, they succeeded in getting it started. This marked the birth of a ‘beach house on wheels’, all set against the backdrop of a global pandemic.
The Pacific Ocean Crossing
The team sailed through another season in Mexico to feel somewhat back to normal. However, their thirst for adventure knew no bounds as they ventured further, spending a breathtaking 23 days crossing the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean from Cabo to Hawaii. Making landfall at Hilo sparked yet another thrilling episode waiting to be documented by WanderSailing.
A flight back home with Kona brought Eric back only to sail Briam Mia across to Canada with two friends aboard. But a twist in the tale arrived when potential buyers turned up two weeks before the crossing – Dave and Chrisy, a lovely young couple cruising through the Hawaiian archipelago along with their dog Porter.
They purchased the boat in what became a bittersweet goodbye as Eric flew home to reunite with the ticking time bomb called ‘land homestead’. Thus began The Quest for a Land Home and Beyond.
A New Chapter of Life Begins
Following the adventure, WanderSailing dove into the world of land homesteading. They purchased a house that needed significant work, which involved starting on building a basement suite, having a baby and embarking upon nesting. Amidst all these life-changing developments, power tools were constantly buzzing downstairs as they finished off their “Coy West Coast Nest” for guests.
While continuing to hustle hard, WanderSailing also welcomed the construction of a workshop – an episode detailing the entire journey is yet to come.
A New Sailboat Enters Their World
WanderSailing’s journey continued, and fortunately for them, another sailboat, this time a 33ft Morgan, found its way into their lives in the Sea of Cortez. A few months of sailing aboard the Morgan brought about the realization that cruising was not just something they wanted to continue but also extend towards raising kids on the high seas.
The answer for WanderSailing was crystal clear – a new boat with Eric’s unparalleled talent for building and fixing things would become their focus. They intend to build a performance cruiser that captures their love for innovation and adventure, creating various products and parts crafted from carbon fiber leading the charge along this new journey.
