Sailing to a DREAM WAVE in the South Pacific (With a new Crewmate)!

Welcome aboard Elixir! As we sail between Tahiti and Moorea in the South Pacific, we find ourselves at a very exciting point in our world voyage. My name is Max, and I am about to reach the halfway mark on this journey around the globe onboard Elixir, a 1970s Swan 37 yacht.

Picking up a New Crewmate

We pick up a new crew member named Janna on this episode. We initially meet her in Mexico and now she has joined us for our journey in the Pacific.

Exploring Moorea

Moorea is, without a doubt, one of the most breathtaking islands we have encountered so far in our voyage through the Pacific. Its dramatic volcanic peaks and lush landscapes make it a visual feast.

Dream Wave Discovered

Just arriving at this beautiful island was thrilling enough, but the cherry on top came when we discovered a reef pass that was home to an amazing wave, just as we had been dreaming about.

Ancored in Paradise

As luck would have it, it was perfect timing for the birthdays of myself and my sailing mate Chloe – to be celebrating them here, anchored right next to this fun wave, with a group of friends around us.

Surfing the Dream Wave

We were beyond excited to get out there and surf this dream wave we had been waiting for. The initial scare of seeing the sharp coral reef underneath as you’re riding the wave is worth it once you get the hang of it, making for a really fun session.

Joint Birthday Celebration

To celebrate Chloe and my joint birthday, we threw an impromptu party on the island. A mix of friends who had traveled from all over the world in their ‘plastic boats’, as well as those we’ve met throughout our time sailing in these beautiful islands.

Discovering Moorea’s Magic

Moorea truly encapsulates what makes this part of the world so enchanting – lush volcanic ridges, crystal-clear waters and ancient history all in one place. It’s impossible not to be awe-inspired.

Saying Goodbye

Eventually, we had to leave Moorea behind as Janna needed to head home. As she prepares to leave Elixir once more, the lessons she’s learned and the experiences they’ve shared together come flooding back. She speaks of Elixir like an old friend – patient, resilient, strong – these are the qualities that have been ingrained in them during their time sailing together.
