Sailing 700 Miles Through the Caribbean's Most Notorious Pirate Territory

The Mosquito coast of Nicaragua and Honduras is known among sailors for incidents of piracy and theft. Due to its remote location, limited law enforcement presence, and proximity to drug trafficking routes, this area has seen reports of boardings and opportunistic theft on anchored and sailing vessels. While not widespread or highly organized, these incidents have led many cruisers like us to take extra precautions or avoid the area altogether when planning their routes through Central America. The route from Panama to the Bay islands of Honduras goes right through this area and it’s not really possible to avoid the area altogether. The best thing we can do is try to stay offshore far enough where its way more difficult for the these pirates to get all the way out to us in their smaller vessels.. So here we go… 700 miles on the big blue trying to avoid any trouble.

Tula's Endless Summer
Billy, Sierra, and Jetty here and we live on a BOAT! We have sailed up and down the east coast, all of the Bahamas and through the Caribbean. We started this boat life on a small monohull sailboat (Tula) and then moved onto an old trawler (Neverland). We now live on a sailing catamaran named Adrenaline. In order to be able to live this life, we buy boats that need A LOT of boat work and fix them up ourselves. We make these videos so you can experience the work and FUN with us.
