Today we’re going to install a water maker on our sailing catamaran that we can take the saltwater that’s all around us and turn it into pure drinking water. The unit we’re installing is a Rainman high output 120 volt AC with control panel and auto-flush.
First I mocked up and installed shelves and mounting pads where the larger components of the system will go, like the pump and the reverse osmosis membranes.
Then I mounted the membranes and control panel. I then put together the plumbing for the inlet side of the system where the saltwater comes into the boat and eventually into a pre-filter.
Finally, I put the pump in place, run a bunch of hose and tubing, including the freshwater product line which goes right into our freshwater tank and I finish wiring the system.
We turn the system on and let it run for a bit, tighten the valve which directs the saltwater through the membranes and test the product water to make sure it’s nice and fresh. Once we are satisfied by taste and also confirmed by the TDS meter on the control panel that the water is pure, we then turn the valve to redirect the water into our freshwater tank.
Now we are filling our tank with 37 gallons of fresh water every hour. When we’re all done, we turn the system off and onto the auto-flush setting for the system to flush with fresh water and ready for the next time we want to turn saltwater into freshwater.
Installing a high output 110v Rainman Watermaker on our sailing catamaran. This is the same water maker we had on Adrenaline but now we even have a clean and super functional control panel. The unit was a game changer back then and we knew we had to get the same one installed on this boat as well. We are now making 37 gallons of fresh water in this warm water which is HUGE for us!
