The sun is setting on another incredible day of sailing, and we’ve covered 350 miles since our last update. As we approach Fiji, the winds have calmed down significantly, making for a smoother ride despite the bumpy start to our journey.
In this thrilling second part of their epic voyage, The Sailing Brothers take on the challenges posed by the vast Pacific Ocean. Having successfully crossed from New Zealand to Fiji in their pocket cruiser, they offer valuable insights into the trials and triumphs of open ocean sailing.
The journey was far from easy, with frequent squalls and rough weather threatening to throw their boat off course. As the wind shifted, they made minor adjustments, carefully maintaining their desired route while keeping an eye out for dangerous weather conditions.
In one particularly memorable scene, The Sailing Brothers meticulously search for the ideal anchoring spot near Mana reef. Despite choppy seas and strong winds, they ultimately find a safe harbor with 20 meters of clear water and visibility.
In addition to the rough seas, the crew also dealt with an unexpected leak in their boat. With a quick check of their bilge and a thorough investigation into the source of the water, they were able to pinpoint the issue as one of several leaks from engine oil seepage. By using strategically placed water bags around their boat, they minimized potential risks and maintained proper weight distribution during heavy waves.
This incredible journey showcases how sailing can bring people together. Throughout their voyage, The Sailing Brothers shared responsibility for handling various boat tasks and problem-solving any issues that arose during the trip. They even managed to catch a delicious Mahi-Mahi fish during one of their evenings on the open water.
Despite facing several challenges throughout this leg of their 1200-mile adventure, The Sailing Brothers were thrilled to finally arrive in Fiji after a challenging yet ultimately rewarding experience. As they reflect on their journey thus far, they are eager for what lies ahead.
If you’re inspired by The Sailing Brothers‘ journey, consider embarking on your own sailing adventure. Remember to always check weather conditions and stay vigilant for any potential problems that may arise during your trip.
