Their destination is French Pass, approximately 20 nautical miles away, with an alternate route leading to a nearby bay for anchoring. Weather Conditions and Preparations The weather is benign on this morning but is expected to change, filling in from the north with winds ranging between 5-10 knots. The sailors recognize that the French Pass has currents running up to 8 knots, recommending going through it rather than against it if possible. The Voyage Through French Pass Upon entering the pass, they discover a significant drop in depth from 13 meters to a whopping 109 meters.
